The evaluation of Heavy metals in the environment around Owukpa coal mine field, Ogbadibo Local Government Area, Benue State Nigeria was carried out to ascertain the degree of contamination resulting from mining activity in the area. The concentrations of selected heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Ni, Fe, Mn and Pb) in soils were investigated. Obtained results from the atomic absorption spectrophotometric (AAS) are as follows: Ni (4.16), Fe (102.91), Cd (1.36), Cr (2.31), Pb (7.15), and Mn (5.46). The result shows most samples had concentration slightly below the WHO standard except for Fe. However, the result obtained for Geoaccumulation index shows the study area fall within uncontaminated to moderately contaminated with PLI value 1 except Cr (0.1570).

Dairy products have long been recognized as a source of healthy nourishment, a vital part of many peoples diets because of the protein, vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids they contain. According to recent studies, consuming dairy products appears to help with muscle growth, lowering blood pressure and low density lipoprotein cholesterol, and preventing tooth decay, diabetes, cancer, and obesity. Organic milk and probiotic microorganisms that use milk products as a vehicle may also provide additional benefits. In addition to the previously mentioned advantages; research demonstrates that dairy products are essential for immune system function and gastrointestinal health. Yogurt, cheese, vinegar, butter, soy milk, lactic acid, and other dairy products are a few of them. Certain texts include in-depth information on the historical manufacturing of certain dairy products as well as the industrial production process, including the metabolic route that breaks down the protein, fat, and carbs.

Health professionals, regulatory agencies for drugs, drug users, and the general public are very worried about therapeutic failure as a result of increasing prevalence of utilizing fraudulent, contaminated, counterfeit, and inferior medications in Nigeria. This studys objective was to evaluate the in vitro efficacy of five different brands of cefuroxime axetil suspensions sold in Amassoma, Nigeria. They were physically evaluated for indications of manipulation or a broken seal on the primary containers cap, as well as for their organoleptic qualities, pH, sedimentation volume, flow rate, viscosity, redispersibility and content of active ingredients/assay using approved protocols. Results revealed that the labels on the suspensions contained all the relevant information, and the containers had not been tampered with to get access to or alter the contents. For color variation, pH, viscosity, flow rate, sedimentation and redispersibility, every brand tested performed well. All of the brands adhered to the cefuroxime axetil content specifications stated on their labels (based on USP). Generally, all the brands are acceptable for distribution and consumption.

The synthesis and preliminary antibacterial screening of a novel organic ligand, Salicylaldehyde-3-aminobenzoic acid (SAB), and its metal complexes are reported in this study. SAB was synthesized through a simple condensation reaction between salicylaldehyde and 3-aminobenzoic acid. The complexes were prepared from SAB and salts of Fe2+ and Ni2+. Some physical characteristics such as colour and solubility were determined. Preliminary screening was also carried out using the disc diffusion method against a panel of clinically relevant bacterial strains, including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Eschericha coli and Salmonella typhi. The result indicated that Fe2+-SAB and Ni2+-SAB showed varying zones of inhibition on the bacteria and exhibited enhanced antibacterial activity when compared to the free ligand. However, Fe2+-SAB showed no activity against Streptococcus pyogenes and Ni2+-SAB showed no activity against Eschericha coli. This suggests potential applications of Fe2+-SAB and Ni2+-SAB in the development of new antibacterial agents.
